—Uma

Uma is a party member in Aveyond 3-4: The Darkthrop Prophecy. Uma is one of the daughters of Mel Darkthrop. Uma travels to the past to protect her mother from the machinations of her sister, Nox, and aid her in escaping the Demon Realm alive.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Uma was born to Mel, along with her sister Nox. Uma was a kind-hearted girl that tried to see the good in everyone, despite being the main target of Nox's pranks. When Nox travelled to the past to encourage her mother to fulfill the Darkthrop Prophecy and conquer Aia, Uma followed suit and sought to stop her sister's meddling with their mother's destiny.

The Darkthrop Prophecy[]

Uma appeared before Mel and Nox soon after Mel was tossed through the Demon Portal. She berated Nox for "breaking the rules" and argued with her about what their appropriate course of action should be before Nox eventually relented. Uma then joined Mel's party, and proceeded to act as a protector ang guide to her mother while the they travelled throughout the Demon Realm. Uma explained the peculiar nature of the Demon Realm relative to the overworld, which helped Mel complete quests and solve puzzles. When Mel's personal servant Yemite caught up to her in the Demon Realm, Uma encouraged Mel to allow her to join the party, knowing that more fighters on her side would always be helpful. Once Mel defeated the demon guarding the Staff of Destiny, Uma saw that Mel would be safe in the protection of Galahad and Yemite, and departed from Mel's party along with Nox.

Aftermath[]

Uma and Nox later appeared before the Oracle following the events of Aveyond 3-4: The Darkthrop Prophecy. The Oracle chastised Uma and Nox for meddling with their mother's past, to which the latter two briefly argued about how Mel's life could've played out had Nox succeeded in guiding her to ruling the Empire of Darkness. The Oracle then terminated the argument by stating that "the future remains unchanged" and that Mel would live a happy life until she bore twins: "one fair, the other dark. Both trouble." Both Uma and Nox, seemingly satisfied with the course of events following Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic, returned to the future from which they came from. Canonically, Uma and Nox would be born to Mel and Lars VIII, whom Mel met after returning to Veldarah.

Personality[]

Uma has a caring and optimistic personality. She is willing to see the good in others, even her mischievous sister Nox, and tries to help them when she can. While she travelled with Mel, Uma's kind nature manifested itself by her willingness to help various inhabitants of the Demon Realm with their problems.

Uma is also careful and knowledgeable. She understands the metaphysical nature of the Demon Realm relative to the overworld, and shares this knowledge with Mel to help her safely escape it. Despite being Mel's daughter, however, Uma never revealed her relation to her mother, recognizing the dire consequences of doing so.

Relationships[]

Mel Darkthrop[]

Template:Tempalte:TextQuote Uma loves her mother Mel and wants her to live her best life. She travelled to the past to stop Nox from having their mother embrace the Darkthrop Prophecy and complete the conquest of Aia that her ancestor Mordred Darkthrop began because she believed that Mel would ultimately become miserable, since she wouldn't be able to love anyone.

While she travelled with Mel, Uma was very protective of her, insisting that she and Nox accompany her throughout the Demon Realm to ensure her safety. Uma largely taught Mel about the metaphysics of the Demon Realm, which aided her in exploring the strange region and dealing with its inhabitants. Once Mel defeated the demon guarding the Staff of Destiny, Uma entrusted her safety to her remaining companions and said her goodbyes before leaving her.

Nox[]

If you had let me guide her, we would have inherited the world!

If I had let you guide her, she would have been miserable for years! What good is power without love? It is better this way.

—Nox & Uma

Uma and Nox have a somewhat adversarial relationship, stemming from their opposite personalities and opinions regarding the Darkthrop Prophecy. Nox wished for Mel to embrace it and ascend to rule the Empire of Darkness, while Uma wanted Mel to live happily away from the influence of the prophecy. They often argued about which destiny their mother should pursue, but nonetheless, still loved each other as sisters. Uma cooperated with Nox as they travelled with Mel, fighting alongside and protecting each other throughout their journey. After the events of Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic, both Uma and Nox were ultimately content with the choices their mother made, and returned to their futures with no further attempts to change the past.

Yemite[]

I don't need your protection.

Mel, is this wise? We'll need all the help we can get.

Uma recognized that Yemite was friendly to Mel and wanted the latter to allow the former to join the party. After Mel relented, Uma and Yemite travelled with and fought alongside each other without incident. Once Mel obtained the Staff of Destiny, Uma entrusted her safety to Yemite, showing that she grew to trust the darkling in the short time they travelled with each other.

The Oracle[]

Mel will have twin girls. One fair, one dark. Both trouble. She will know you, and understand.

—The Oracle

Uma referred to the Oracle as "mistress" and seemed to respect her authority. When the Oracle chastised her for interfering with the past alongside Nox, Uma tried to defend her actions by claiming that Mel would've been unhappy had she allowed Nox to fulfill her schemes. However, the exact circumstances of their relationship remain unclear, as the two have never been seen interacting outside of the end of Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic.

Abilities[]

Like her sister Nox, Uma is a talented magic wielder and can travel to the past. Unlike Nox, Uma's magic is primarily focused on healing and sustaining her allies.

Uma uses tears to inflict various status effects upon enemies with her attacks. She also knows a variety of healing spells whenshe joins the party, but does not learn any more skills as she travels with Mel's party.

Trivia[]

  • Nox and Uma were originally slated to be the protagonists of Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist, along with an orphan boy. However, Amanda Fitch decided not to give Aveyond 3: Orbs of Magic any more prominence in the Aveyond series than it already had, and changed to story to be about Boyle Wolfbane instead.
  • Uma shares identical max HP, max MP, and physical strength stats at each level as Mel and Nox.
